EXPAND; EXPERIENCE; EXPLORE

Designed for the start-up professional pet photographer; valuable for those who are established in their business up to 2 years. 15-person maximum enrollment per workshop. Once booked a waiting list will be created. 

Please note: **Cowbelly workshops are NOT open to photographers who live and/or work in Western Washington- no exceptions granted under any circumstances.** The workshops are also NOT designed for those who would like to photograph pets on a casual level as a hobby. They are strictly geared toward photographers who would like to start, maintain and grow self-supporting full time licensed businesses. 

Location: Seattle: Belltown neighborhood

Schedule:

FridayEXPAND: 9am-6pm (1 hour break)

Expand your knowledge of the business side of pet photography. Learn why good business acumen is just as important as great photography skills. Day 1 will be held in the studio.

1. Business plans

2. Marketing plans

3. Mission Statement + elevator speech

4. Legal forms, photography contract (sample contracts will be included in the workbook)

5. Other forms: client interview, shoot schedule, running projects, marketing stats

6. $$$: business needs, start-up costs, ongoing expenses, estimated revenue, financial statements and other $ stuff

7. Marketing, advertising and branding

Guest speaker on marketing to the pet industry and submitting content for editorial.

Review: Q&A afterward

SaturdayEXPERIENCE: 9am-6pm (1 hour break)

Experience various strategies for getting great shots in the field with client's dogs. Day 2 will start with brief instruction in the studio, then quickly move to outside locations.

Hands-on photography in the field:(this will take the bulk of the day) 

Location photo shoot for client’s dog(s) at Olympic Sculpture Park on Seattle's waterfront. Location shoot for client’s pet(s) in their home in Belltown. We will try and arrange cats as well!

Guest speaker on studio and auxiliary lighting. We will try a variety of different lighting setups in the studio so each photographer can determine what works best for their tastes. 

Studio time: review: Q & A

Individual portfolio review: each attendee will have the chance to have their portfolio reviewed by Jamie, ask their burning questions, and get some personalized, one-one-one attention. Please have your online portfolio updated with current work. If this isn't possible, please have current work on your blog. 

Sunday: EXPLORE: 11am-6pm (30 minute break)

Explore ways to improve and sell your images. Talk about how to increase your revenue and improve your marketing strategies and channels.

1. Web stuff + SEO

2. Printing: DIY vs labs

3. Pricing strategies and the relationship with your branding

4. Products: high end vs. low end, and everything in-between

5. How to make money off your images: stock, commercial, editorial.

6. Post-shoot processing in Photoshop, Lightroom and ACR Bridge: Jamie’s TMOL (two-minutes or less) editing to take your images from great to AWESOME! Please bring your laptop if you have one. If you don't already use Adobe Lightroom, please download the trial version before you come. 

Final day Q & A

End of workshop dinner: a fun dinner and drinks out with the group at the fabulous Six-Seven bar at the Edgewater Hotel on Seattle’s waterfront.

Workshop Cost: $1495 per person.

Includes all instruction, resource workbook, including sample photography contracts and forms, private forum subscription for one year, special offers from sponsors, fun goody bags, yummy breakfast and lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the final night dinner. Does not include lodging, travel to and from workshop location or other incidentals.
