Q: I really want to attend a workshop but the dates don’t work for me. Do you have any scheduled in 2009?

A: Yes, we will be holding workshops in 2009, starting in the late spring. Dates and locations are yet to be scheduled, but we will announce updates here and on our blog as soon as they are. Look for more information in early 2009!

Q: How do I register?

A: Send us an email to workshops@cowbelly.com to request a registration form and the full Terms and Conditions. Complete the form and email or mail it to us, and make your deposit payment through paypal or check. Deposits can be sent to info@cowbelly.com, or mailed to Cowbelly Pet Photography, c/o Workshops, 24 Roy St #466, Seattle, WA, 98109. We will then send you a confirmation email with all of the information you need for the workshop, including a list of recommended hotels in Seattle and the complete itinerary for the workshop.

Q: Who are these workshops right for?

A: #1: the workshops are designed for photographers who are wanting to make the transition from hobbyist to professional, start a business and develop a meaningful and rewarding career in pet photography. They are NOT designed for those looking to improve their photography as a hobby or for the casual shooter. They are also NOT available to photographers who live and/or work in Western Washington- no exceptions granted under any circumstances. Sorry guys!

The 3-day intensive Cowbelly Workshops are designed for start-up pet photographers and those who have been running a business for up to 12-18 months. Although certainly not limited to this group, *relatively new* pet photographers will see the most benefits. If you own a more established business you are certainly welcome to come, just know that you will be learning alongside total newbies and the information will be designed and geared toward them.

Q: Do I need to have photography knowledge to attend a beginning 3-day workshop?

A: Although we will cover how to properly expose an image, and go over aperture, shutter speed, ISO, depth of field, metering modes and focusing, it is assumed that each attendee will have at least a basic knowledge of these aspects of photography.

Q: I already have an established pet photography business, and would really like to learn from you, but don’t really need the business side of the workshop; would it be possible to learn just your photography and post-processing from you?

A: Possibly! If you are interested let us know. Although the demand thus far has been from new photographers entering the field, if we receive enough demand from established pros, either general portrait/wedding/event photographers looking to expand their services, or professional pet photographers looking for a fresh perspective, we will book more advanced workshop dates. Keep in mind though that the business side of the business is the most important part! You can do great photography but without a solid business and marketing plan and great business information you merely have an expensive hobby.

Q: I am scheduled to attend an upcoming workshop, can I have access to the private forum beforehand?

A: Sorry but no. We want to keep the private forum private until attendees have had a chance to attend the workshops for a variety of reasons. I know the suspense is killing you but we promise it will be worth it!

Q: My family/work obligations/young puppy/fear of flying preclude me from traveling. Do you intend to offer workshops in any other cities?

A: Yes, definitely! Please contact us and let us know you’d like to have a workshop in your city, and include where you live and we will keep you in our thoughts for future workshops. (Please note that because of the sheer number of cities in the US, we can't guarantee that we will end up scheduling a date in your town.).

Q: How soon after registering is payment due?

A: A deposit of $500 is due at the time of registration, and the full balance is due a minimum of three weeks prior to the workshop start date. All payment terms and due dates are outlined in the registration form and Terms and Conditions.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel?

A: We understand that 'life' happens, so we have cancellation policies in place for registrants who need to cancel or reschedule. It is also possible to find another photographer to take your place. Please see the terms at the end of the registration form for full cancellation policies.

Q: What should I plan to bring with me?

A: Please plan to bring your camera and any lenses you use (if an slr), as well as backup batteries and plenty of memory cards (if digital) or rolls of film (if film). Feel free to either bring a film or digital camera. We will talk about both at the workshop. There is no need to bring lighting equipment so unless you have a small lightweight flash you can leave that part of your gear at home. Please bring any marketing materials you have as you will go over them during your portfolio review. Bring a large notebook for taking notes and to hold forms and a favorite pen if you are picky. If you have a laptop please bring that although it is certainly not required. If you have a laptop and don't currently own Adobe Lightroom, please download the trial version before you come. Bring your cell phone in case we need to reach each other for any reason once your plane lands. Bring plenty of changes of clothes as the weather can be changeable in Seattle. Bring comfortable walking shoes and pants you don't mind getting dirty and slobbered on!

Q: Are the workshops open to non-US residents?

A: Absolutely! Anyone anywhere is welcome to attend, provided they do not live and/or work in Western Washington. In fact, if you speak French Jamie can converse with you in your native language. For participants who have any other language as their first language, it is strongly recommended that you bring an interpreter to the workshop with you as there will be A LOT of information to cover at the workshops. Local interpreter’s contact information can be provided. For all non-US residents, deposits and payments will be required through Paypal only.

Q: Do you have any trade secrets that you WON’T be sharing at the workshops?

A: Nope! It’s a no-holds barred kind of thing.

Q: is this REALLY the answer to my prayers?

A: We’d like to think so. This is NOT a get-rich quick scheme; we will NOT promise instant wealth or overnight success. We will be the first to tell you that running a business is hard, hard work! What we WILL provide is a realistic account of what it takes to create the business of your dreams and give you the tools you need to do so.

Q: I have more questions! What should I do?

A: Email us. We look forward to hearing from you!
